Teen Party Games
Playing teen party games is a part of growing up. Teenagers had so much nervous energy that they really need a way to cut lose. A teen party game gives them a constructive, fun way to do this. With the number of bad influences out there nowadays, it is good for kids to have parents who organize healthy, supervised teenage parties.
Of course, adolescence is a long period of time. 13-year-old teenagers like different sorts of teen party games than 17-year-olds do. Therefore, the perfect teen party game for one group will not necessarily be the right game for another. Then again, there are a number of party activities that are universal. Strangely enough, the younger kids birthday party games like pin the tail on the donkey, beanbag toss, and red rover are still popular with certain groups of teenagers. You see, in some ways the teens want to be recognized as adults, but In other ways they still like kids stuff. Silly games are great for letting them be kids.
As far as teen slumber party games go, I usually let well enough alone. I know that teens like to play games like “Truth or Dare” or “I Never” when no one else is around, and don't try to catch them out at it. These sorts of teen party games are harmless as far as I'm concerned. I know that my child will never use drugs or engage in risky behavior in my house, but if she wants to share secrets with her friends, I'm not really anyone to say anything about it. I let her have her privacy.
One of the best teen party games I've found recently is called Apples to Apples. I don't know if you've heard of this game, but it really is a lot of fun. Basically, everyone is trying to get rid of cards with nouns on them. They can be anything from a famous singer to a historical event to something personal like “my bedroom.” The person whose turn it is to reads an adjective card, and everyone has to try to get rid of a card that sounds most like that adjective. The person who threw down the adjective judges for that round. Once kids start playing it, they can't get enough of it. It might be one of the best teen party games I've ever played, if not the best one.
As a parent, I always try to remember that it isn't my place to choose the teen party game. I am a supervisor and a facilitator, but that is it. What I like to do is to make certain games available and let the kids decide for themselves what they want to play. After all, it's their party!
