Star Trek Legacy
Star Trek Legacy is available for both the XBox 360 and the PC. For maximum enjoyment, the XBox version is the choice for overall play enjoyment.
This finally created addition to the Star Trek series does deliver for graphics and combat in the vast regions of outer space. The downside of the game at times can be the difficulty of the missions which leads to frustration at some points. Overall, a well done, long-awaited addition to the series.
The video game features the voices of all five Star Trek captains, which is a great add-in. Archer, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway are all present and accounted for. The main story line is a long trek through time which involves a Vulcan scientist who learns about the Borg and becomes their queen. The captains all cross paths with her to figure out what she is doing in an effort to stop her.
Combat is this games forte, and after some practice with the camera, you'll be able to maneuver your ship to fire against enemies with ease and skill. Just about every class of starship is included in the game. You have the classic Enterprise all the way down to the NX-01. Part of the down-side of massive difficult missions is the inability to save during a massive battle. If you fail in your mission, you have to start the whole thing all over again, which can lead to the frustration mentioned earlier. Some battles can take as long as an hour, and there should have been a way to capture your progress. Battles do require thinking ahead. You can attack an enemy space station, help allies in need, or retreat for repairs to your ship. The graphics details for the battles with explosions and starships flying around really brings you into the action. Certain battle details could have been done better such as when a space station or Borg cube explodes.
The music is typical Trek with nice orchestral's. Overall sound for battles and weapons is good as well as the captain's voices. There are a lot of voice-overs, however, and too much story telling in some areas when you want to get to the action. This is a minor issue and some of you may enjoy this.
Although the game itself has the previously mentioned annoyances, it maintains the statuesque look and feel of Star Trek. Beautiful ships and the forces of good and evil combined with great battles make this game a must-play for all Star Trek fans.
