Mother Daughter Relationships Are A Special, Unbreakable Bond Of The Heart

As long as mothers and daughters have been on earth, there has always been a special, precious relationship between them. Girls naturally seem to cling to their Mama in the early years. She is the source of comfort, food and unstinting love and attention. Poor Daddy is sometimes not quite so favored for at least the first several years.

Mama is there for bath time, diaper changing, playing, staunching tears after a fall and making crafts. It's usually Mama who can be cajoled at the grocery or toy store for a special treat. While Daddy's out making money to pay the bills, you and your little Sweetie are having lots of fun. Your daughter showers you with kisses, learning to talk and read and share with friends. The discovery that there are both girls and boys in the world simply underlines the special mother daughter relationship. Once your daughter makes the distinction that you're a girl too, nothing more need be explained. Modern psychology calls this bonding. This phenomena lasts a lifetime. Both mother and daughter are firmly tied at the heart and nothing can change that. The mother daughter relationship is formed.

Once your daughter is rock solid on Mama's unconditional love, she may begin to pay a little more attention to Daddy. This period ushers in Daddy's little girl. Hey, Daddy's not so bad after all. He's fun too. Trips to the amusement park and a family movie night, pizza, popcorn and holiday barbecues bring Daddy into the fold of your daughter's heart.

Once your daughter reaches a certain age, around 12 or 13, the mother daughter relationship takes a new turn. All of a sudden, your daughter decides that Mama is a bit bossy. “Here's some juice. Eat the rest of those veggies.” Hmm. Now Daddy seems to be a little more exciting. He doesn't embarrass her with such remarks.

By the age of fifteen, Mama knows virtually nothing about life. Daddy, on the other hand, is quite the smart one. A difficult period can ensue for Mama. However, your daughter knows that you would fight the world for her, so if Daddy comes up with an unacceptable edict, she knows Mama will always mediate for the best deal.

When your daughter reaches that sweet sixteen, Mama isn't quite the drill sergeant she'd been cast in earlier years. After all, Mama's a girl. She can talk about clothes, makeup, music and boys. Hey, she knows something after all.

All the while, through all the years, Mama and her Sweetie love each other to pieces. The mother daughter relationship can only be shared by mother and daughter. It lasts forever.

Summary

Mothers and daughters have an interesting roller coaster time from birth to adulthood. Girls tend to accept Mother and then reject them depending on their age of maturity. Good Moms know daughters have to stretch their wings and limits. Give them the room to grow. They will always be your little girl.
