SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy Seals

SOCOM 3:US Navy Seals has exploded over previous games as a first person shooter game by adding numerous improvements to the base game which include 32 player online play, vehicles which are drivable, larger maps, and the ability to swim.

As a single player, you get to be the squad leader of a four man team of Navy Seals. There are three main campaigns in which you are assigned different tasks to perform as

you navigate through the environments. North Africa, South Asia, and Poland are the areas on your assignment list. Tasks are varied in this game and range from freeing hostages, to marking enemy tanks for allies to destroy, capturing enemy officers, and othermilitary objectives. There are scores of vehicles you can drive which are armed with all kinds of military weaponry, such as Humvees with missile launchers, gunboats, dunebuggies, and trucks. Since the environment area is quite large, there is always some sort of transportation to help you get to your destination quicker. Hand-to-hand combat is also included, but is not frequent in the game. Most enemies can be taken out from a safe location far away before they detect your presence. There are the obligatory tunnels and towns to check, and this is where most of the close combat occurs.

As previously mentioned, the environment you get to play in is huge, and to help with this, there are strategically placed checkpoints which allow you to heal yourself and get fresh supplies. This helps reduce the frustration factor as you move along with your mission assignments.

The graphics and feel of this video game are excellent. While running and firing your weapon of choice, your aim is not as good as stopping and shooting from a prone position. Firing heavy weapons also are more accurate if used with a tripod. These small details really add to the realism of this game. Silencers stifle the power felt from firing, and submachine guns spatter of bullets is fantastic. Weapon choice is wide open and this game has a smorgasbord of them you can choose from before you head out on your mission. Shotguns, rifles, grenades, submachine guns, and all those neat tools to go with them like scopes, lasers, grenade launchers, thermal sights, and trusty bipods.

Sound written into this video game is first rate. Weapons firing, vehicle sounds, and chatter all tie in beautifully and make this game as close to real battle as you can get. Distant rifle shots echo, and misfires click perfectly. SOCOM 3 US Navy Seals is a great single person game, but really shines under muliplayer online meetings. If your a fan, definitely add this on to your collection.
