Finding Old Atari Games
When I was a kid, my parents didn't have a lot of extra money to spend on toys and video games. I remember getting one or two gifts at Christmas and my birthday, but that was it. The rest of the year, I had to make do with hand-me-downs from siblings or cast-offs from friends. This seemed perfectly normal to me at the time; it's only when I look back with an adult's perspective that I realize how much my mom and dad really struggled to make ends meet.
Now that I'm on my own and making great money, a part of me can't help but feel nostalgic about all the things I wanted as a kid. That's why I've been treating myself to all the old Atari games that my parents could never afford to buy me back then. I don't even need to have the 2600 console to play all the famous titles like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Pitfall, Missile Command, Centipede, and of course, Pong. Instead, I'm able to find most of these old Atari games in free online flash versions that I can play anytime I want. Vintage titles are hot right now, so these types of websites are popping up all over the place.
In addition to free gaming websites, there are also sites that offer old Atari games as downloads that I can play on my computer (provided that I have the right emulator installed). Once again, most of the old Atari games that I want to play are completely free, so I'm not spending anything to satisfy my inner child here!
I do have to admit, however, that I've been looking into the possibility of buying the 2600 or 5200 console in the near future. Then I'd be able to buy old Atari game cartridges and play them on my television set, with a joystick and all. I've been looking at these items at different online stores, and am surprised at how many are available. For some reason, I thought they'd be harder to find, but I've had no trouble at all.
Moreover, these systems aren't as expensive as I expected. Depending on various factors, I've seen 2600 consoles priced at anywhere from $50-$200. Then, I can buy old Atari game cartridges for about $5 at these same places or on auction sites, and have the gaming experiences I never got to have as a kid.
Don't get me wrong, I'm as much of an Xbox 360 enthusiast as the next person, and love all the incredible graphics and great features that modern gaming systems offer. But it's fun to occasionally kick back with a few old Atari games and remember the simpler times.
Summary
Finding old Atari games using the power of the internet is very easy these days. Ebay is a good source to find these old games and consoles. You can expect to pay anywhere from 50 - 200 for a console and games for around 5 dollars. These were the first games, and are still favored by devoted fans for nostalgia.
