Though I have heard a lot about why you should have an emergency kit and your home for almost any situation, I have just begun to recently see these commercials on my television. These commercials are sponsored by the government, and give a link to a government web site that help you prepare in the event of a disaster or any other type of emergency. I guess what happened with New Orleans is something that our country is taking seriously. The more people are prepared in their homes, the better their chances of survival are when something unforeseen happens. One of the most important things you can have in any emergency kit is a NOAA weather radio.

Most emergency kits will contain things like food, water, clothing, medications, and any other thing you may need on a daily basis. When you are constructing your emergency kit you should remember that you may not have power or heat in the event of a disaster. Because you will not have power, you will want a battery powered NOAA weather radio. The most common cause for any type of disaster is the weather. When you have no way of knowing what is going on, you do have to make sure you have a way of knowing what the weather is going to do next. A NOAA weather radio is the best way to do this.

If you do not know where to get a NOAA weather radio, you should look online for more information. I am not really sure how they work, as I do not yet have one on of my own. I think this is something that I’m going to buy very soon, as the weather around me seems to be a little weird. It’s not that we have had a lot of snow, it is in fact that we have had absolutely none. The winter has been extremely warm, and this worries me to no end. I am not sure if that can be used for other radio broadcasts, but I do know it will keep you up-to-date and informed about any weather situation you may need to know. A NOAA weather radio may also pass along information about your safety, or any announcements you may need to know about, but I honestly do not know if this is true. What I do know is that if you are in the middle of dealing with a disaster, knowing what the weather will bring next gives you the important heads up you need to keep your family safe.
