My Miracle Baby

During my early twenties, I had a very strong desire to have children. There were times when I just couldn't bear watching ladies walk down the street with their babies in strollers or carrying their babies in stores, parks or where ever I saw them. Tears were sometimes very hard to hold back. Several tests were performed to find out why I could not have children and basically the answer was unknown. Those Dr's really didn't have a clue because most of the reasons they gave me were really conflicting. I was really a mess and was determined to do everything that I could possibly do to find out why I could not get pregnant.

In Ismir, Turkey I had a gypsy woman perform and old family home remedy, I took Geritol iron supplement, and tried things I never heard of in order to get pregnant.

I began to become distraught and I started giving up. Later I just left that issue where it was and decided that having a child was not going to happen and that was just the way it was to be. I could not understand it but I began to accept it.

During a tour of duty in Germany, I traveled to Lagos Nigeria with some Nigerian friends. Somewhere along the trip, I can't really remember, I met this sweet old Nigerian Christian woman who left her mark on my life. Many of my friends and I were invited to spend a time of praise and worship at this lady's home. At this time in my life I was not where I should have been spiritually. I was really not as interested in going to praise and worship but I remembered what blessing had been given to me in the past. I got the idea that if I could get a group of strong prayer to pray for me I would indeed have a child. I had been praying but I needed stronger faith, I needed someone who would be spiritually stronger than I was at the time. I was very surprised as to how many Nigerian people who were Christians. Everyone at the Nigerian woman's house spoke perfect English and I understood everything that was going on and everything that was said during this prayer that lasted for about thirty minutes while everyone held hands. Once the prayer was over the Nigerian woman told me that I would conceive in about two months and that I was to have a boy child. Well, it was almost exactly as she had predicted except I had a girl (who's a tomboy).I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina when my daughter decided she wanted to come early.

At 32 weeks my water broke while on my way to my monthly check up. I was walking down the hallway when water started trickling down my leg. There was no need to panic... I thought' so I turned right around, walked back down that hallway and went home and packed my bags for the hospital. Little did I know; I was not to have my child in the same state I was in at the time my water broke. I was examined and my daughter was in great danger because there was no water bag surrounding her anymore and therefore she was in distress. I was given a shot of steroid to keep my child s heart from going into total distress. By her being premature and a breach baby, I had to be evacuated by helicopter to Walter Reed Medical Center. I was a little afraid but not very, because I figured God had not bought me this far just to leave me. I was loaded on a helicopter but later had to be transferred to an ambulance because the helicopter didn't have enough gas to make all the way to the Hospital. When I heard the helicopter operators having a conversation about not having enough gas then I began to worry a bit. Eventually we did make it to Walter Reed. My daughter was delivered and, she weighed three pounds fifteen ounces and had no special life support systems attached to her. She was (and still is) the most beautiful child I ever laid eyes on. I had to have been the happiest girl in the whole world. I now had my very own child and she came in as a fighter. Words cannot express how very proud I am to be a mother. My daughter and I are very close. She is very healthy now and you would never know that she was a premature baby. She is the jewel of my life and I promised God that if he blessed me with a child that I would do my very best to raise my child to honor and love the Lord. She does and I am proud of her. Miracles do still happen you just have to believe, wait, and be patient.
