Some musicals have stood the test of time and are just as popular with modern audiences. Guys and Dolls is one such show, revived on stage many times and made into a classic movie. The original production debuted on Broadway in 1950 and was an instant smash. Words and music were by Frank Loesser and it starred Robert Alda and Vivian Blaine. The London version followed in 1953 and featured Stubby Kaye.

Many people know the show from the 1955 movie, directed by Joseph Mankiewicz. This version of Guys and Dolls was a big hit and was nominated for four Academy Awards. Frank Sinatra, at the height of his fame, played Nathan Detroit and respected actress, Jean Simmons added some glamour. The role of Sky Masterson was given to Marlon Brando.
