Good Study Habits

If your children are not getting the grades you think they should or they are spending too much time working for those grades perhaps they need to develop better study habits. Effective studying is the one thing guaranteed to get you higher grades. Studying has two parts: Remembering and learning.

student first gets their course outline the first thing they should do is to read it and find out what the goal of the assignment is. If they have to read a book about someone's ideas then the assignment is to understand? If it is a fiction piece then it is for fun or to see how it was put together and why the author did it that way.

A student might think why go to a class in addition to reading. It is to get help with facts or ideas. The point of teacher's lectures is to highlight certain points which may not be in the book or to explain ideas and facts that are presented in the book but are not easily understood.
Here are a few tips that can help with studying.

Skim book prefaces, intros, and such instead of skipping them altogether. They are meant to help. They explain the author's point of view, show the organization, define special terms and symbols and offer help on how best to use the textbook. Reading a textbook from start to finish doesn?t work, mainly because you are wishing you were already finished. Research has found that the average person forgets half the ideas he has read within a few minutes. Try skimming bold titles and skim pages reading whatever catches your eye. Read the whole selection quickly, putting a check next to important parts and also parts that you don't understand. Go back and reread the parts you have checked until you understand them thoroughly. Get rid of all distractions, find a quiet place to study. Develop a routine to study around the same time every day.
