Fry My Turkey Please

It was maybe 12 years ago, when my dad and uncle first introduced me to fried turkey. Of course, as a teen, I was thinking.....what are they talking about? All I knew was oven roasted turkey, you know, they kind we have for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But somehow, my uncle and my father had created a turkey fryer. I mean, they actually used an old deep pot, on top of some type of furnace or water heater burner....welded to some legs and hooked to a propane tank! Needless to say, this was before they had the turkey fryers readily available in retail stores.

As I watched them perfect the art of frying a turkey, after a few years, I began to notice more and more turkey fryers available for purchase, as well as flavor injector kits, and all types of stuff related to it. I won't say they started it, but I know they were a couple of the few doing it before it became such a commercial way of cooking the turkey.  Now, more people know about it, and it isn't such a weird thing to hear. I can still remember the look on my friend's faces when I first asked them if they wanted some fried turkey. Ha, man, they thought I had lost my mind!

Honestly, I am now a fan of it myself, I love the flavor, and, it's very moist and juicy. Not to say I don't love the traditional turkey anymore, but anytime my dad is frying one up, you better believe I will be over there with my plate!

Try a fried turkey, you may be surprised how much you like it!
