Do You Have The Diet Mentality

Thousands of people start diets everyday to lose weight. Some do lose weight but a lot of people do not and even end up adding on a few more pounds.

In our society we think the only way to lose weight is by dieting but all it does is make you feel worse about yourself and probably does more damage than good to your health.

The people with the diet mentality believe that fat is bad and thin is good. You begin to diet to become thin only to set in motion endless dieting and failure.  You begin to get angry with yourself, feeling guilty or ashamed because you have failed, so you start another diet and the cycled is repeated.

This anxiety becomes so intense that you find yourself overeating or going on a binge to cope. Most of your time is spent worrying about what you're eating, not eating, how much you weighted yesterday, today and how much you will weigh tomorrow. No matter how strict you are the outcome is the same, failure.

When you fail you take it personally. You use it to deflate your self esteem and self respect and to beat yourself up. It is very difficult to succeed in dieting with a poor self image.

You start to deprive yourself of the things you want in life. Your restrict yourself from certain activities because you are fat like going to the beach, applying for the job you wanted, you don't participate in sports of social gatherings. You feel left out. People with the diet mentality believe in the dieting myths that losing weight is serious, the faster you lose the better, everyone knows better about how much weight you should lose than you. You end up with the illusion that you no longer responsible for eating. When you go on a diet prescribe by a dieting guru you give up your power to choose and someone else becomes the blame for your weight problems. You come away thinking you can't be trusted with food. I t is a pattern that denies the truth that you are responsible for what goes in your mouth.

So what caused people to overeat? The cause is unique to each individual and until the cause is brought to surface the pounds will keep coming back no matter how many diets you go on.
