Chocolate Dipped Spoons – A Perfect Treat For All Ages
When I first heard about chocolate dipped spoons, I found the idea rather comical. After all, the spoon is what is not exactly a symbol of elegance, or something edible for that matter. I have heard of chocolate covered cherries, chocolate dipped grasshoppers, and all manner of other delicious and bizarre confectionery treats, but the chocolate dipped spoon was new to me. I didn't see the point – that is, until I tried baking chocolate treats for a party of preschoolers.
The results were horrendous. The kids got chocolate all over their hands. Once it was on their hands, it quickly got on their faces, their clothes, the carpet, the walls – you get the idea. Before they were done with it, in fact, I had a chocolate dipped house. That was when I learned the virtue of chocolate dipped spoons.
With chocolate covered spoons, you see, your kids have something to hold onto. This eliminates the mess of having your little ones hold the chocolate by hand, and this is no small accomplishment. That doesn't mean that you can't use chocolate dipped spoons for more sophisticated audiences either. I have had dinner parties with gourmet chocolate spoons, and I've got nothing but rave reviews. Of course, if you have a more sophisticated audience you don't want to use plastic spoons – those are for the kids. Besides that, everything else can stay remarkably the same.
There are many different ways of preparing chocolate dipped spoons. The simplest one is just melts some Baker's chocolate and mix it with sugar, milk, and a touch of vanilla . If you have never had homemade milk chocolate, you really have to try it. It is absolutely delicious. All you do once it is melted is scoop up the chocolate with a spoon and let it dry and hard in a bit. Scrape off the excess chocolate from the bottom and the sides, and you are also to go.
Of course, if you want more elegant looking chocolate dipped spoons, that isn't hard to do. A little bit of frosting or white chocolate on the top usually does the trick. The end result is surprisingly attractive, and more appropriate for a dinner party setting. Kids like it too – kids love pretty things. Nonetheless, with little ones, plain old chocolate is usually enough. Once they get the spoons in their mouths, they are in heaven. Once you discover that the floor is not covered in chocolate, you will be in heaven too!
Summary
Chocolate dipped spoons can be such a treat! They are truly easy to make and only require you meling the chocolate and dipping the spoons allowing them to dry a bit before placing down. Spoons are a versatile treat you can add frosting or decorate to get a more glamerous treat.
