Why Children Are So Good At Asking Questions
Have you ever sat and listened to a child asking questions over and over again? They normally have more questions about the answers that you give them, and that means that the questioning can go on and on until you find a way to get them to stop. This type of questioning is good for them, and it shows that they are thinking about things in a good way. Learning comes from many places and many things, and asking the right questions is one of those things.
Children are good at asking questions because they are naturally curious, and the young ones are not yet old enough to think that they know everything. The more time you take to answer some of their questions, the smarter they are going to be. When they are asking questions, you should be sure to tell them when you don’t know something. That is far better than giving them bad information. This helps them to know that not everyone knows everything and that is okay. This encourages them to find other ways to get information.
Another reason why children are so good at asking questions is because they think about each and every word that you say and they get more questions from those. When you ask adults questions, they often don’t think about additional questions right away, but children generally do. This leads them to learn more, and learning more quickly. That may not sound like much, but when it comes to asking questions, more is learned through this manner of questioning. You may get tired of hearing it, and that is quite normal, but give them a little time to get through some before you ask them to stop or redirect them in some other manner.
When children are asking questions that you cannot answer on your own, show them how you would go about finding out what they want to know. This will show them that they have other resources, even when those around them don’t seem to have an answer. There are plenty of places online dedicated to those asking questions, and there are other learning sites as well. Don’t forget about resources for answering questions like online and printed encyclopedias, and other learning materials at bookstore both online and in your own community. Libraries are a great source as well, and those are usually free. With a little research, almost all questions can be answered.
Summary
Children's imaginations are so much more active than adults. They tend to ask questions constantly in an effort to learn about their world. They come up with some interesting thoughts abut the ways things are, and can give some parents pause with their ability to pinpoint things which adults take for granted or do not question.
