Battery Powered Fan

The battery powered fan has been around for a long time, but it has only recently been taken to a serious level. Back in the day, you could buy a battery powered clip on fan at the drugstore as a way to keep cool in the summer. Most of these fans were very simple. Basically, all you had was a small plastic fan blade attached to the type of motor you might see in a toy car. Although the design was simple, it worked pretty well. Best of all, it was pretty cheap.

Nowadays, however, they have battery powered fans that work a lot better than that one. Like everything else in our culture, the demand for new and better gadgets has driven innovation. First of all, there are new battery powered fan designs that can clip onto your neck and keep your entire head cool. People lose the most amount of heat around their heads, so a nice cooling breeze directed at this particular area is a great idea. Best of all, you don't have to really hold onto this type of battery powered fan. It may look a little bit silly, but it does do the job as long as the battery lasts.

A friend of mine turned me on to another new innovation in the battery powered fan. It looked the same on the surface, but it actually had another valuable addition. It was basically a battery powered misting fan. It had a small reservoir of water, and air from the blade drew out a subtle but cooling mist as it went. This made a big difference. The water would work to whisk heat away from the skin, resulting in a cooler feeling very quickly. Although I don't know how much it actually changes core body temperature, it does make you feel better in the hot summer heat.

About the coolest thing I've seen the summer is a battery operated camping fan. A friend of mine has a lot of spare money to blow, and he is crazy for gadgets. When I first saw this portable air-conditioning unit, I was a little bit skeptical to say the least. I figured that he'd just wasted a substantial chunk of money. Nevertheless, when he turned it on I was convinced. It created a powerful, cooling breeze. We were camping out in the middle of the wilderness at the time, so it was invaluable. For about 15 hours, we sat there in the tent and enjoyed what felt like a cool summer day while there was heat all around.

Summary

Battery powered fans today work much better than the ones of yesterday. These little devices can operate safely and efficiently. Some offer a misting option to release water vaoprs into the air which is great for winter dryness. They are very useful during the summer for camping and other outside activites where power is not available.
