Action Adventure Games

I had really been a big fan of action adventure games ever since I was a kid. The first action and adventure games that I ever played, of course, were games of the imagination. I would Run around pretending to be some sort of mythical superhero or an errant knight. We would have quests to undertake, adventures to complete, and feats of strength to perform. Honestly, I think that childhood imagination games are probably the model for every action adventure game ever made. There is never another point in your life when you have such a vivid and powerful imagination which you enjoy so much as during childhood.

Still, the action adventure games that people make to entertain older children and adults are pretty fantastic and vivid. I remember playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons when I was about 10 years old, and loving every moment of it. Although looking back on those days I'm surprised at how simplistic the game was, at the time it seemed like such a complex and fantastic adventure to be going on. There were magical items to get, spells cast, dragons to defeat, and even a few puzzles to solve along the way. It was the first real action adventure game that I ever played, and I was actually absolutely captivated by it.

Of course, as action and adventure games have grown up, they have moved into the realm of computing. Nowadays, the best action role playing games are online. There are all sorts of different games for different tastes. There are the massive strategy games where people all over the world compete for empires online. There are the arcade action adventure games where you can test your mettle and reflexes in real time combat with people across the globe. And of course there are those games that combine aspects of both.

I would say that my favorite action adventure games of all time are the legend of Zelda games. I guess I've been playing them almost since the series started, and have won several of them. They take hours and hours to play, but they are well worth the time and effort. They really immerse you inside the universe and, by the time they're finished, you have completed a satisfying quest and solved some very difficult puzzles. One of the things I really like about them is that they combine plot and action so flawlessly. You have to wonder all over a giant interactive map, killing dragons and solving riddles while at the same time defeating countless monsters, villains, and other NPCs. It really makes for a satisfying combination of different sorts of game playing. By the time I'm done with one of those action adventure games, I always feel well satisfied.

Summary

Action adventure games offer a lot of fun for everyone. They typically include quests and tasks to accomplish. Given today's technology in graphic design and capabilities, adventure games show you a whole new world to explore in wonderful detail. A good example of classic action adventure games include the Zelda series.
