All About Goldfish Food

Owning a goldfish seems rather simple. You get a bowl, put it in, and then feed it. Most don’t know it, but bowls are not the best choice, and you do have to put some thought into goldfish food and how many times you feed them each day. They are simple creatures, but they do require specific care and surroundings. They do have a problem with overeating, and what you have heard is true, it is possible to over feed them, as they will eat until there is no more food to be found. That can be very dangerous for them.

What can be tricky about goldfish food is knowing when to feed them and how much. Some think you only have to give them food once a day, but that is not true. Most need fed twice a day, and some need food three times a day. A good rule of thumb is to feed them just enough goldfish food so that they are done eating with in a few minutes. Remember that their stomach is about the size of their eyeball. When you look at it that way, you may realize that you have been overfeeding your fish.

When it comes to goldfish food, there are a few things that can happen when you feed them. You may notice that the water gets a little cloudy at first, but that can be normal. The problem is when the water does not clear up after they are done eating. If this is a problem, you may have to get a better filter, or a different type of home for your goldfish. Ideally, the more surface space on the water, the better. The water may never be totally clear, but having enough water for your fish, and feeding the right amount are both important factors.

If you notice that you fish do not seem to attack your goldfish food the moment it is put into the tank or the bowl, there may be a few things going on. One might be that you are overfeeding, but it might also mean they have health problems. Another problem could be that they are not fond of the goldfish food that you have. You can try to give them pellets if they don’t like the flakes, or vice versa. You can also try to get a different brand, as that can make a difference as well.

Summary

Feeding goldfish food is a fine line. You don't want to give them too much as they will eat until there is no more, and you also do not want to give them too little. If the goldfish do not attack the food when you put it in, you are feeding them too much, or they do not like the food brand.
